Spirituality

Spirituality in Islam is called tasawwuf.

Broadly, this refers to the disciplined refinement of the soul and development of exemplary moral character. It deals with the rectification of one’s inward state and the process of developing a sincere relationship with God.

“For Islam, at its essence, is about your relationship with your Creator, because religion devoid of a direct relationship with God is incapable of bringing hearts to life.”

— Dr. Asad Tarsin

It is important to note that tasawwuf as an Islamic science is consistent with the sciences of Islamic belief and practice. Spiritual practices that violate Islamic creed and law are not legitimate.

“We will always be bound by the sacred law no matter what it is that we experience. And the people of this science [of tasawwuf], even though they go through very powerful spiritual states and witness amazing things, are the firmest people of all upon the sacred law.”

— Shaykh Yahya Rhodus
